This is something I’ve been thinking about for a long time, and I thought I would use this blog to explore these ideas for a while.
Even before “The Secret” came out a few years ago I had heard of the Law of Attraction. I have practiced many of its principals for years. Maybe not always fully, but it has been a long practice of mine.
However, there have always been many things about the Law of Attraction that really, really bother me. And I think it’s time to really dive into them and explore them more fully.
First of all, the Law of Attraction says that if you think something and can feel it, you can manifest it in its physical form. Sounds easy, right? Gets you excited and makes you want to go try something right now, doesn’t it? Go ahead and try. I’ll be here when you get back.
Here are the problems I have found with believing in the Law of Attraction:
1. The Law of Attraction doesn’t operate in a vacuum. There are other laws at work, and we’ll explore some of them on this site.
2. People who believe solely in the Law of Attraction believe that others attracted disaster to them and are responsible for their own fate, no matter what. You can’t tell me that when thousands of people die in a natural disaster or millions die such as in the Holocaust that every single one of those people contracted with the Universe and drew that disaster to them.
3. Many people who believe in the Law of Attraction sit around and wish for things instead of taking action to make their lives happen. It’s not enough to sit around and hope for something, picture it in your mind, and feel as if you already have it. You need to get out of your home and take steps to make things happen. Many people become disillusioned with LoA because they thought everything they hoped for – money, love, health, etc. would just be dropped off on their doorstep. It doesn’t happen that way.
What do you think about the Law of Attraction? I truly believe in it and its power to create your life. However, I believe in it in context of other Laws and things in your life. I hope you join me on this journey. Maybe we can start sorting it all out.

I think that magic can happen with positive thought, but I also think that we need to be effort in. My teacher has said it’s both grace and effort…
I think you’re right, Marian. I kind of think it’s selfish to just ask the Universe to deliver. I mean of course it could, but I think people should do their part, too. It’s kind of like saying, “Hey – I said I want this, and I really do mean it!” It’s just putting even more positive out there, which will make things happen faster (like while you’re alive). 😉
Thank you for writing this! OMG … this is so true … #3 is the one that I hear so much about. And the looks on their faces when I ask what they are doing to help this along … Many get light bulbs but some are like “you mean there’s more to it than just envisioning” … duh
cant wait for more 🙂
