Some people like rocks and crystals. Some people like dirt and gardening. I like forests. Lots and lots of trees that I can get lost in for hours – that’s my favorite place to be.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone out and gotten lost in the woods. Ever since I was a little kid I loved taking off and blazing my own trails. I could be gone for 4, 5, or 6 hours, and I would never worry about it. Sure, I might be out in the middle of nowhere, but I knew I would always make it back home. And I’d be back out of the woods either right at dark or shortly after. One thing that scares me is being alone in the forest at night. But I’ve slept in a tree before, and I can do it again (I don’t know why people worry about falling out – it’s not an issue for me). During the day I’m perfectly happy. I’ve always known that I’d be okay and I’d make my way out eventually.
Whether it’s been in the mountains of West Virginia or the forests in Oregon, I like to find myself when I’m off the main trail. In fact, I haven’t been hiking much lately. I think I’ll go do that now.
What best represents the earth element to you? Where do you get lost enough to find yourself? I’d love to hear about it.

The trees are my retreat as well Amethyst. I can and do walk for hours wandering in a forest. It’s where I find my peace. I suppose that is why I also enjoy being owned by a dog…they are the best companions for those forays as they don’t chatter the whole time which would drive me nuts. lol I love the gardening I used to be able to do and on my dream board is a little house with a huge garden banked by trees.
I used to wander in the forests behind my home- and traveled around the entire area (about five miles)- examining stumps, trunks, flowers, fauna… It was a glorious time.
The shadows and light- as the sun skipped through the leaves- was the added bonus.
Thanks for rekindling the memories.
