Happy Thanksgiving with a New Moon and Mercury Retrograde

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving here in the USA, a day when we are “supposed” to celebrate our freedoms and all of the amazing things that are present in this Universe (I am thankful for indoor plumbing).

However, things often take a weird turn and the men often plop themselves in front of the TV to watch football (that’s American football, not soccer), and the women spend hours upon hours in the kitchen (often complaining that the men are in the living room yelling at the television).

Where did our sense of the holiday go? I will not spend days preparing a feast that will be sucked down in a matter of minutes in front of the television. I will not bake 4 pies and a cake – who needs all that sugar and calories anyway?

What I will do is sit with my family and talk about why we are thankful this year. We also usually talk about getting through some of our more difficult times. This year everyone has been through unemployment and deaths in the family. But still we gather together around the table, thank the Gods and Goddesses for our bounty, and bless the Earth for all of the wonderful gifts She gives us every single day.

This year Thanksgiving marks the beginning of yet another Mercury Retrograde. Thankfully, I will be enjoying that by not spending any time on my computer tomorrow. ๐Ÿ™‚

It is also a New Moon tomorrow. This is the beginning of Her cycle, and a great time to prepare new spells for the next couple of weeks as she waxes and grows in the sky. New Moons are about new beginnings. What is new in your life? Or what do you just wish was new? Take a few minutes to write down your new gifts in gratitude. I like to write something positive I will be receiving on a piece of paper, then burn it and thank the Spirits and the Universe for sending it to me and helping me on my Path. I know it is already done.

What are you thankful for this season? I’d love to hear about your Thanksgiving and New Moon traditions.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, as well.
It’s the new moon of Kislev, the month of winter solstice, and the festival of lights.
May the light of freedom bring knowledge, love, and peace to your life.

Roy, for a second there I thought you were Pagan naming the moon and speaking of winter solstice. ๐Ÿ˜‰

We are having friends and family over this year — this is our baby’s 1st Thanksgiving (my husband and I) and the 1st year that my oldest daughter is “coming home” as she has been living on her own for a couple months now. Started the “cooking” today LOL My 16 yr. old son did the apple pie and we are making pumpkin pies today. and tomorrow morning all the “sides” get done and then I cheat — the turkey goes in a turkey bag LOL

as for traditions? well you described it in a nutshell. sort of. my guys help with the cooking though LOL and we don’t watch football in our house. We are a baseball family ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you for the new moon idea! I am hoping to survive this merc retro — can I go hide in a cave somewhere?? LOL Have a joyful and happy Holiday!

Congratulations on the 1st year with your baby, Kimberly. Don’t worry too much about Mercury Retrograde. I’ve found that if you don’t bother it, it doesn’t bother you, at least for the first few days! ๐Ÿ™‚
